February 5, 2010 - As part of the USASA’s AGM agenda, the new USASA Implementation Team Leaders were introduced to the membership in attendance at the Council Meeting in New Orleans.
These eight individuals will help shape the future of the USASA by leading eight specific teams. Each team is specific to an objective which will be executed through various plans in order to meet given deadlines. These Leaders will be responsible for the strategic planning process of the organization. There was also a ninth person introduced as the overall implementation manager.
The objectives, formulated at the USASA Vision and Strategy Summit in Phoenix in 2009 are;
1. 2015, increase USASA membership from 250,000 to 500,000.
2. 2015, USASA will have 5 national sponsors generating $200,000 of revenue.
3. 2013, deploy to all member organizations a comprehensive coaching and adult soccer focused referee development program.
4. 2011, all member organizations will register all players on the USASA member database.
5. 2015, increase women and ethnic participants to 50% of total USASA player membership.
6. By 2012, all member organizations are using USASA developed resources to facilitate development, improvement and access to soccer fields and facilities.
7. By 2015, double participation in competitions from 10,000 to 20,000 annually.
8. By 2012, USASA and 90% of all member organizations will use best practices in governance and administration.
Please welcome the USASA Implementation Team Leaders:
Bob Kepner (North Carolina)
Overall Implementation Manager
Bob Kepner has serviced the game for over a quarter century touching every facet: coaching, officiating, organizing, and working with youth and adults. Blessed with the support of many friends and co-workers, he has served in a variety of leadership roles with the North Carolina Adult Soccer Association as a Registrar, Secretary, Treasurer, Vice President and President. At the national level, Mr. Kepner held positions such as member of the USASA Appeals Committee and Rules Committee. For several years, he served for the US Soccer Appeals Committee, the US Soccer Summit Planning Group, and as Chairman of the US Soccer Credentials Committee. At the youth level, Bob worked with the US Youth Soccer Association for 4 years as Chairman of the Risk Management Committee that shaped the US Youth Soccer Risk Management Program. He also served as the North Carolina Youth Soccer President for 14 years.
Bob feels that he could bring a useful set of skills to the task of helping USASA to move forward in fulfilling its new vision and mission and in achieving its strategic objectives. He believes that he is effective at extracting the essential elements from a whole and providing direction to an activity; at developing concepts based on sometimes organized, sometimes disparate data; at compiling information and presenting it in an organized, readable format, and at working with a group to help the group move forward constructively. Mr. Kepner is a retired educator, where his focus was in Mathematics and Administration.

Summiteer Survey Summary
Final Summit Agenda
September 30, 2009 - Letter from Summit Task Force Chairman, Tom O’Shea & Survey Results
As we approach time for the 2009 USASA Summit in Phoenix, your Summit Task Force wanted to send to you the initial summary of results from the Adult Soccer Engagement Survey we fielded this summer. We will be going through the highlights and conclusions from this survey along with a synthesis of the many interviews with Summiteers and other USASA stakeholders at the Summit.
We invite you to review this survey information for familiarization with the perspectives that have been captured by the survey. Download USASA’s Summit Survey Results here.
Your Task Force team has been working very hard on your behalf – special thanks to Hank Steinbrecher, Mark Haas, Cara Rooney and Tim Busch who have led the Survey and Interview processes as well as Tyler Sakats, a graduate student intern who has helped as well.
We look forward to seeing you in Phoenix and will have another communication coming to you on Monday to help in the preparation for this important time together.
Best regards and have a great weekend.
Tom O’Shea
Summit Task Force Chair
September 11, 2009 - Letter from USASA Chairman, Brooks McCormick & Summit Schedule
Dear Summiteer,
On behalf of the Executive Committee of the United States Adult Soccer Association, I am pleased to invite you to be a participant in our upcoming Strategic Summit, to be convened in Phoenix Arizona, on October 9-11 2009.
This is a very important milestone in the growth of our organization. Your thoughtful participation is essential and will be greatly appreciated. Under the leadership of Tom O’Shea, Chairman of the Summit Task Force Team, we have secured the services of Hank Steinbrecher, Kevan Pipe and Mark Haas of Sporting Strategies International to guide our strategic plan development and facilitate our Summit meeting. As a Summiteer you will be asked to contribute your time, energy and thought to this process.
The Task Force Team, which includes Karon Beyer, Valerie Blanchenay, Tim Busch, Rick Davis, Doug Pels, Angela Radke, Cara Rooney, Luis Salcedo, Dan Trainor, and Bruno Trapikas, has been very busy organizing this event. We have been conducting a broad array of interviews and fielded a web based survey to help us gain valuable information on our organization. We had approximately 2,400 of our members and other stakeholders complete the survey with a nice representation of all four regions!
The goal of the Summit is to be open, inclusive, and transparent. Our objective is to develop a shared vision of USASA and the right supporting mission. We will identify key areas of excellence that we must achieve to fulfill that vision. Our Summit will also identify the key objectives we aim to accomplish and the supporting strategies to guide our efforts. We will identify enablers and constraints for our success and develop action plans that can be tracked and measured to help us get traction as we implement this plan together.
The current schedule for our Summit is available for download here – a final schedule will be distributed closer to the event. As you can see it is quite full. We believe that the amount of work done before the Summit will have a positive effect on the results of the Summit. As a Summiteer, much will be expected of you. We will ask you to join us in certain tasks prior to the Summit such as participate in interviews, complete the survey and review any materials sent to you in advance. We sincerely hope you will contribute. You will also be asked to come to the Summit prepared to address what is best for our organization and our members. In FIFA’s words: "For the Good of the Game."
On behalf of our entire organization and the hundreds of thousands of players we support, we thank you for your efforts and for your active participation in our Strategic Summit.
Sincerely,
Brooks McCormick
