Region I Cups qualifying came to a close on Sunday, June 22, as the Men’s and Women’s Open, Amateur and Over 30 finals were held at German Hungarian United Club, Oakford, Pennsylvania. Champions advance to the USASA National Finals to take place in Seattle on August 7-10.
The Pancyprian Freedoms (E-NY) swept the Boston Olympiakos (MA) 3-0 in the Men’s Open, while in the women’s, the United German Hungarian – Elite (E-PA) hosted the Kappa Real Wyckoff (NJ) for an outcome of a 5-0 win by the UGH – Elite on Sunday’s final.
Men’s Amateur competition was secured by the Baltimore Colts (MD) as they cruised to a 3-2 victory over NYGA Atlas (E-NY). As for the women’s, the NY Athletic Club (E-NY) repeated last year’s scenario, as the team defeated Danubia Women (E-PA) 4-2 becoming the 2008 Region I Amateur Champions. The Eastern New York squad qualified for the 2007 National Cups Finals after they smashed the San Francisco Nighthawks (WPSL) 3-0 in semifinals, and crushed the Triad United Aces (NC) 4-2 in the finals, making them national champions of the Women’s Amateur Cup (see picture below).
Danbury United O30 (CT) came out victorious with a 2-1 tally mark over the Christos/Colts FC (MD) in the Men’s Over 30. There was not a Women’s Over 30 game, as the United German Hungarian O30-Women team has qualified for the 2008 Nationals.

Under 23 Cup Finals will be held in Northern Philadelphia, PA on July 12-13, 2008. The format will be tournament play with group matches on Saturday, July 12, and the semifinals and finals on Sunday, July 13. The tournament will consist of no more than 16 teams with mini-games played through the group phase and semifinals. The finals will be full 90-minute matches with the possibility of overtime.
