The final game between AAC Eagles and RWB Adria of the Region II Men’s Open Cup kicks off on Saturday, June 14. The rivals, both from the Chicago area, are slated for a 1:00 PM (C.T.) match at Chicago Academy Field, Chicago, IL. The team with the highest score advances to the National Finals.
On May 17, AAC Eagles defeated Des Moines Menace (IA) 2-1 at home, which allowed qualifying for the next round. The Eagles are 2007 USASA National Runners-up as they beat the St. Pete Kickers (FL) in the semifinals of the Men’s Amateur competition. In the final game though, the Eagles lost to Region I’s Boston Olympiakos 2-0.
RWB Adria qualified for the 2008 regional finals after facing the Madison Princeton-56ers (WI) on May 17. The Illinois team came out victorious with a 2-0 win over the Princeton-56ers at Lake Forest College, IL. Founded in 1959, the RWB Adria is also a 2007 USASA National Cups participant. They lost to Azurri (TX) 4-3 in penalty kicks in the Men’s Open Cup semifinals.
The Region II Cups in the Under 23, Amateur and Over 30 divisions will be held on June 27-29 at Lovers Lane Park, Bowling Green, Kentucky. The tournament will also host the Women’s Open Cup. Click here for championship schedule.
