May 19, 2008

Region II Open Cup semifinals were played on Saturday, May 17th in the Metro Chicago area.

RWB Adria (Illinois) defeated Madison Princeton 56ers (Wisconsin) 2:0 at Farwell Field in Lake Forest College. While at Chicago Academy Soccer Field, Adria’s rival, AAC Eagles of Illinois captured a 2:1 win over Des Moines Menace Reserves (Iowa).

These two Chicago-area clubs are currently preparing to meet at the Regional Open Cup final; the winner will attend the USASA National Cups Finals to take place in Seattle this August. RWB Adria is a USASA National Cups semifinalist, as the team played in last year’s championship losing to Azurri (North TX) 3:4. The Eagles are runners-up of last year's National Cups, as the Boston Olympiakos blanked them 2:0 in the Amateur draw. They are also runners-up of the 2005 USASA National Cups in the Open division and 2002 USASA Open Cup Champions.

Both teams have been granted access to the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup first round of qualification, claiming the region’s two berths in the tournament.
