From: Brooks McCormick, President USASA
I am writing to update our membership on several issues, the most important of which is an update on the Consultants Report from the Summit, their Management Review as well as a report on what actions have been taken to begin the implementation process. The Consultants Report from the Summit and the Management Letter was delivered to the USASA Executive Committee on November 21, 2009 during an EXCO Meeting in Seattle. Hank Steinbrecher attended in person, Tom O’Shea and Mark Haas attended via teleconference. The documents will be posted on http://www.usasa.com/summit for all of our members to review at their convenience.
At the Seattle EXCO meeting the Executive Committee appointed a task force to review resumes to make recommendations for individuals to chair the eight implementation committees as well as individuals to serve on each committee. The Summit Task Force created a Team Leader and Team Member job description and a survey to go along with it. Take Survey Here.
The Executive Committee also appointed a Governance Task force to review USASA By-Laws, current governance structure, committee structure and how committees are appointed. They will then propose By-Law changes that reflect the principles and recommendations that came from the Summit as well as the Management Letter from the Consultants. The goal is to have these ready for the Mid-Year Meeting in 2010. The rosters of the two committees will be posted on USASA.com. The Executive Committee also discussed the transition of the USASA Executive Committee from an Operating Committee to a Governance Committee. This will take place in concert with USASA Staff taking on more of the daily operations of the organization. We are also developing a job description and transition plan for the position of National Administrator to an Executive Director position.
During the November EXCO Meeting future staffing of the USASA was discussed, while there was a proposed five year matrix presented the immediate need was seen as creating and staffing a USASA Registrar Position, this was approved and the position will be filled as soon as possible. I do want to emphasize that the job will be not only help to bring our members into compliance with USASA but to also help State Associations bring member leagues into compliance with their State Association. As was discussed at the Summit we need to help each other get better! This position will help free up staff time from Member Services so they can focus more on supporting and educating the association which in turn will help our members grow their organizations so we can get a jump on or goal to double our membership in the next five years.
The Executive Committee has a conference call scheduled in December and a two and a half day meeting scheduled in January primarily to keep the Summit implementation process moving at a rapid rate. I will continue to keep you up to date as this process moves forward. Please feel free to contact me with and suggestions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Brooks McCormick
