USASA Announces Regional Coaches of the Year and Lifetime Achievement Award Regional Referees


USASA would like to congratulate the 2008 Coaches of the Year and Lifetime Achievement Award Regional Referees who were selected due to their dedication to both Men’s and Women’s programs at the state, regional and national levels.

Every year, USASA chooses one coach and referee per region. The finalists are honored at an Awards Luncheon during the Midyear Meeting but only one coach and one referee gets to receive the annual award. This year’s Luncheon is scheduled for Saturday, October 10th at the Phoenix Hilton in Mesa, Arizona.

Regional Coaches:

Douglas Homer, Region I

Douglas holds a USSF “B” Coaching license which he attained in 2003. He is the Head Coach of the U.S. Maccabi Men’s National Team, team he has coached since early 2007. He developed a strategic plan for the identification, selection and development of an 18-person Senior National that finished fourth out of 12 National Teams at the 2007 European Maccabi Games in Rome, Italy.

Adrian Parrish, Region II

Upon arriving to the U.S. from England near the turn of the century, Adrian spent several years on the East Coast sharpening his coaching skills, prior to coming to Lexington, KY, in 2005, where he has been driving a force in helping to transform soccer in Kentucky over the last four years. Parrish has held a USSF “A” License since 2004, and is currently completing his UEFA “A” as well.

Akram Molaka, Region III


After achieving top honors in the 1997 Youth Regional Finals, Gary was asked to take part in the Youth National Tournament.  Then in 1998, he achieved the honor of National Referee where he attended his first referee camp in California. Subsequent to attaining his State Referee Grade 5, Gary was introduced to a much faster and exciting game of soccer called D-3 and the A-league, of the former USISL (now USL).  He was always available when the North Texas State Soccer Association requested his assistance and was happy to be there.

Luis Azevedo, Region IV

Luis is the Coach for Santa Clara Sporting Club, where he also is a proud Sports Director. Through his passion, he hopes to reach his goal to give back to the community. The Santa Clara Sporting Club has contributed to many in-need public institutions. Luis proudly worked along side with the other directors, coaches, and players.  Santa Clara Sporting Club has grown to sponsor about 25 youth soccer teams of girls and boys and 2 men’s teams.

Regional Referees:


William Renderos, Region I

William is a USSF Grade 4 Referee who has been officiating the game at the national, regional and state levels for many years. He has participated in the U.S. Soccer Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup for USASA, USL and MLS teams as well as in numerous WPSL and NPSL semifinals. Renderos has also devoted his time to Region I USASA National Cups for both, rounds of qualification and finals.

Hilario “Chico” Grajeda, Region II


A very frequent face at Regional Tournaments since the 1990’s, Hilario Grajeda’s skills have advanced him to MLS officiating and to being a cofounder of the Professional Referee Academy. A National Referee since 2002, Grajeda has also officiated at USASA’s Donnelly Cup, at the National Cups Finals, and at the 2003 Soccer Festival in Houston.

Gary Owen, Region III

Bill Miller, Region IV

Bill has been an active referee for many years and registered with the USSF for 22 years. He holds a USSF Grade 8 Referee badge and has participated in several USASA Region IV Finals and USSF Development Academies. Extending a hand has always been present on Miller’s life. He has helped and given guidance to other referees by assessing, mentoring and teaching clinics. Clinics which he plans and organizes at the advanced level.
