About Lawrence
Lawrence, Indiana, both the city and the township, is strategically located on the northeast side of Marion County.

Indianapolis is the heart of Marion County, and has a unique form of combined city/county government called "Unigov".

Interestingly enough, residents of the City of Lawrence can vote to elect two mayors: the Mayor of the City of Indianapolis and the Mayor of the City of Lawrence.

The township is more than just one of nine suburbs of Indianapolis, with retail, manufacturing, and service industries, unique to our community. One of the advantages of Lawrence is its proximity to the social, entertainment and cultural atmosphere and community spirit of many American communities. Both Lawrence Township and the City of Lawrence enjoy their own police and fire protection and public utilities.

Long the home for the U.S. Army's Fort Benjamin Harrison, the fort is now officially closed, and the property is available for development. Much of the new direction of Lawrence is being focused on the future use of Ft. Harrison. In addition to 550 acres of prime property for development of light industry and other businesses, the fort provides the local residents with a State Park that includes a top flight golf course and a complete conference center.

Lawrence is named in honor of Naval Captain James Lawrence- famous for the War of 1812 cry, "Don't give up the ship!"
