LANCASTER — Long before Reinata Walaza did the chicken waddle windup and kicked the ball that scored her South African team’s first goal at a soccer tournament here yesterday, she and her teammates, ages 47 to 84, had to overcome maladies such as arthritis and cancer, make multiple hourslong trips from their rural villages to obtain passports in Johannesburg, and rely on the kindness of strangers after their government reneged on money promised for the trip.

The Veterans Cup Ends Its Two Year Stay In Massachusetts As A Record Number Of Teams Participate

The 13th annual USASA Veterans Cup was held July 13-18, 2010 at Citizens Bank Fields at Progin Park in Lancaster, Massachusetts. 104 teams competed for titles in 14 Women’s and Men’s divisions. The total for participation over the two years the tournament was held in Massachusetts is 209 teams, a new Veterans Cup record.
