USASA Announces First-Year Inductees to Its Hall of Fame

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - August 30, 2006 - The United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA), the governing body of adult soccer in the , today announced the inaugural class of inductees to its newly-established Hall of Fame.

Nominees were chosen on the basis of having made a significant contribution toward the development and advancement of adult amateur soccer, and were selected by a broad 18-member selection panel formed for that purpose. The Selection Panel was comprised of the members of the USASA Hall of Fame Committee: Chairman Bruno Trapikas, Sal Rapaglia, Richard Williams, Charles Robinson, and Ric Olivas, as well as representatives from each of its standing committees: Brian Alexander, Carlos Rodriguez, Dan Trainor, Gerhard Mengel, Janet Slauson, John Motta, Ken Conselyea, Lu Aprigliano, Peggy Polley, Russel Rankenburg, Tim Busch, Tony Dubrowski, and Valerie Blanchenay.

The inaugural ceremonies to honor the 41 individuals who have been selected and to formally initiate the USASA Hall of Fame will take place on October 20 at the Hilton Alexandria Mark Center Hotel in Alexandria, Virginia , during USASA’s Mid-Year Meeting. USYSA President Larry Monaco will serve as the Master of Ceremonies for the gala event.

First-year inductees include USASA’s first Chairman, Milton Aimi, as well as three of his successors, Ed Nunez (posthumous), Gianfranco Borroni, and current USSF Vice-President Mike Edwards. Former United States Soccer Federation Presidents Gene Edwards, Jack Flamhaft, Werner Fricker, J. Eugene Ringsdorf, Peter J. Peel, and Joseph Triner will also be enshrined posthumously, as will be John Best, Clive Charles, George Donnelly, Tom Fitzgerald, Mike Kabanica, Kurt Lamm, Fritz Marth, and Joseph L. Rodrigues.

USASA Chairman Brooks McCormick, in reflecting upon the history and the dedication of the individuals to be honored, said, "The contributions to our organization by these individuals have been overlooked for too many years, it’s time we correct that oversight."

Hall of Fame Chairman Bruno Trapikas added, "Our words and our recognition are but symbols of the deep appreciation we all have for the legacy the inductees have given us."

Nunez, Kevin Payne, Peter J. Peel, Foster Perry, Everett Polley, Peggy Polley, Salvatore Rapaglia, Gordon Redshaw, J. Eugene Ringsdorf, Charles Robinson, Joseph L. Rodriguez, Julius Roth, Howard Rubenstein, Roger Schott, Joseph Triner, Richard Williams, Michael Wuertz, and Joseph Zyzda.
